Gearing up for business growth in Fenland

A free event is being held in Wisbech later this month to help local businesses access thousands of pounds of available funding that could help them grow.

Boathouse Business Centre

Organised by Fenland for Business, the economic development arm of Fenland District Council, the event will feature talks from expert speakers on the various funding opportunities available to Fenland businesses.

The talks will also cover why businesses should put greater stock in their growth potential, with examples of local companies that are expanding successfully being showcased.

Registration is now open for the event, which is being held at The Boathouse Business Centre in Wisbech on Wednesday, March 28, from 10am to 12pm.

Speakers will include:

• John Stenhouse and Stuart Thomas from Signpost2Grow, a regional programme that gives small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) access to a wide range of business support, advice, grants and events aimed at helping businesses grow and develop.

• Stuart Spink from The FD Centre. A commercially experienced chartered accountant, Stuart has over 30 years of industrial experience. Having worked with the likes of Kiddicare and Stevenage Circuits and presided over rapid company expansions across different sectors, Stuart has a fantastic understanding of what finance companies need to secure and where this can be found.

• Kieran Carr from Cambridgeshire ACRE, which has £1.45 million of LEADER funding available to support rural organisations, farms, land managers and community projects across Fenland.

"Cashflow is one of the biggest contributing factors to the demise of small businesses and we want to put a stop to that in Fenland," said Councillor David Mason, Fenland District Council's Portfolio Holder for Growth.

"Our region's vibrant economy is built on the hard work of passionate SMEs, many of which have a long, proud history in Fenland and are family run. Growing your business can seem daunting but we want to help companies access the capital they need, as well as developing the skills of their workforce, so our region's economy continues to grow."
