New affordable homes for local people

Families are settling into their new homes as the keys to much-needed affordable new houses in Tydd St Giles are handed over.

The £2 million development in Broad Drove East was been officially opened, with all 12 homes to rent being allocated to people with a local connection to the village.

The two and three-bedroom homes have been built by Clarion Housing in partnership with Fenland District Council and developer Burmor Construction.

Designed by Chatteris architecture firm The Design Partnership, each home comes with its own back garden, shed, double parking bay and spacious kitchen diner.

Councillor Dee Laws, Fenland District Council's Portfolio Holder for Neighbourhood Planning, joined residents earlier this month as they took a first look round the development.

She said: "Local affordable homes for local people enables them to continue living in the communities where they have grown up and keeps rural areas alive and thriving, and are a fantastic way to contribute to meeting the housing needs of the district.

"I'd like to thank the local community, parish council and Clarion for the partnership and hard work that have made this site such a success.

"Similar high-quality schemes have already been delivered in Parson Drove, Newton and Wimblington that are ringfenced for local people of the parish and I would encourage all parishes to look at delivering schemes in their respective areas."

Fiona Coulson, Head of New Business (East Region) for Clarion Housing, added: "We are proud to be working with partners to deliver new affordable homes, with quality and design at their heart that local people can feel proud of and benefit from."
