Brown Bin (Garden Waste)

For garden waste only. You need to subscribe if you would like your bin to be emptied.

Brown Bin

Your brown bin is for garden waste only (from April 2017). This includes:

  • Garden weeds
  • Hedge trimmings
  • Small twigs and branches (less than 2.5cm/1" diameter)
  • Grass cuttings
  • Flowers, plants and waste from your vegetable patch
  • Leaves

You will need to subscribe to our garden waste service for your bin to be collected. Each subscription costs £40 and lasts until March 2017. 

What to put in your bin

Our brown bin service is for garden waste, which includes:

  • weeds
  • hedge trimmings
  • small twigs and branches (less than 2.5cm or 1" in diameter)
  • grass cuttings, flowers, plants, fruit and vegetable waste, leaves

Garden waste must be put into the bins loose, without bags. It must all fit in the bin with the lid closed. Any waste left outside your bin will not be collected (with the exception of real Christmas trees in season). 

Bins containing plastics, textiles, soil, general waste or rubble will not be emptied. 

All other materials should be disposed of through:

  • Your blue bin - for recyclable materials
  • Your green bin - for non-recyclable rubbish including carrier bags, nappies, cigarettes and food waste
  • Local household recycling centres - for items you can't put in your bin at home
