Brown Bin (Garden Waste)

For garden waste only. You need to subscribe if you would like your bin to be emptied.

Brown Bin

Your brown bin is for garden waste only (from April 2017). This includes:

  • Garden weeds
  • Hedge trimmings
  • Small twigs and branches (less than 2.5cm/1" diameter)
  • Grass cuttings
  • Flowers, plants and waste from your vegetable patch
  • Leaves

You will need to subscribe to our garden waste service for your bin to be collected. Each subscription costs £40 and lasts until March 2017.

Please place your garden waste into the bin loose, without bags. Any waste left outside your bin will not be collected (with the exception of real Christmas trees in season).

Any brown bin that contains materials other than garden waste will not be emptied. Please do not put in the following:

  • Plastic bags or bin bags
  • Cardboard and paper
  • Flower pots and trays
  • Cooked food waste (this now needs to go into your green bin or home composter)
  • Soil
  • Stones or rubble
  • Branches or logs (larger than 2.5cm/1" diameter)

All other materials should be disposed of through:

  • Your blue bin - for recyclable materials
  • Your green bin - for non-recyclable rubbish including carrier bags, nappies, cigarettes and food waste
  • Local household recycling centres - for items you can't put in your bin at home
