Premise Licence

A premise licence is required for any premise (including vehicles, vessels or moveable structures) which is to be used for licensable activities.

Premise licence

Licensable activities include:

  • serving alcohol
  • serving hot food between the hours of 11pm and 5am
  • playing music
  • showing films
  • providing other entertainment.

If you are providing any of the activities above, you will need a premises licence. To apply, you must complete an application for a premises licence with a premise plan in the correct scale, and send it to all relevant authorities. You must also advertise the application in a local newspaper and clearly on the premise. word icon View an Advertisement Template for the grant of a premise licence. [29kb]

Varying a Premise Licence

The Premise Licence Holder can apply to vary the premise licence at any time. This is often necessary as the business grows or adapts.

Apply to vary a premises licence.

The application process is similar to that of a new Premise Licence application. A copy of the application form and premise plan (if applicable) must be sent to all relevant authorities. The application must also be advertised in a local newspaper and clearly on the premise. word icon View an Advertisement Template for the grant of a premise licence. [29kb]

You can also apply for a minor variation to a premises or club licence - the fee for this is £89.00

Transferring a Premise Licence Holder

If a premise is leased or sold to another owner or company, the premise licence must be transferred immediately. A transfer of premise licence changes the identity of the premise licence holder and does not alter the licence in any other way.

To apply, the current premise holder must complete the application form and the consent to transfer the premise licence. These must be returned with the original premise licence to the licensing team, along with the fee of £23.00.

A copy of the application and consent form must also be sent to Cambridgeshire Police using the following address: PC 1851 Phil Richardson, Police Licensing Officer (Fenland), March Police Station, Burrowmoor Road, March, Cambridgeshire, PE15 9RB.

Varying a premise licence to specify the designated premise supervisor

Premise licences that authorise the sale of alcohol must specify a designated premise supervisor with a current personal licence. This person is usually responsible for the day to day running of the premise, and can often change.

To apply, the premise license holder must complete the application to vary a premises licence to specify an individual as designated premises supervisor. The proposed designated premise supervisor must also complete the consent to be designated form. Both forms must be returned to the licensing team with the original premises licence and a fee of £23.00. A copy of the application forms must also be sent to Cambridgeshire Police at the following address: PC Phil Richardson, Licensing Team, Wisbech Police Station, Nene Parade, Wisbech, PE13 3BT.

Provisional Statement application

A Provisional Statement application is used for a premise which is intended to be used for one or more of the licensable activities, but which has not yet been built or converted at the time of application.

To apply you must complete an word icon Application for a Provisional Statement [459kb] and provide the plan in the correct scale to each of the relevant authorities. The application must also be advertised in a local newspaper. word icon View an Advertisement Template for the grant of a premise licence. [29kb]
