More than 200 older people presented with donated gifts at Fenland Golden Age event
More than 200 older adults got a wrapped donated Christmas gift as well as information on opportunities, services and support available to them at the latest Fenland District Council Golden Age event.
Presents were donated by the Fenland community in response to the first ever Golden Age Christmas Appeal.
Cllr Sam Clark, Golden Age team leader, said: "Our huge thanks go to all the organisations, partners and community groups that support Golden Age year-in, year-out and, on this occasion, have, along with so many incredible and generous individuals in Fenland, donated gifts and support for the Christmas present appeal.
"Golden Age is all about putting our older residents front and centre and ensuring they know all the things available that can enhance their lives. This year every visitor also got a Christmas gift. We know from what visitors have told us in the past that for some of them it might be the only gift they get this year."
The Golden Age event was held at Hudson Leisure Centre, Wisbech, on Friday, December 6.
Around 30 organisations had stands at the free event providing information on the opportunities, services and support they provide to older people. Information on offer at Golden Age events often includes support with independent living, emotions and wellbeing, finances, care, health, home security, social and volunteering opportunities.
Wisbech Grammar School provided Christmas entertainment for the event.
For the Golden Age Christmas Appeal, the council teamed up with Head to Toe, the official charity of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust, which provides district nursing care for older people and those with long-term conditions, and the Trust's How Are You Fenland, which encourages people to get active, learn new skills and be creative.
Many community groups donated handmade gifts and cards to add to the Christmas appeal.
Golden Age events have been taking place in Fenland for 21 years and are open free to anyone who is over 60 or interested in services and support for over 60s.
The next event is Monday, February 10, 10am to 1pm, at Friday Bridge's Tower Hall, Maltmas Drove, Friday Bridge PE14 0HW.
